Web Conferencing – 5 Alternatives to GoToMeeting
While almost everyone has heard of and maybe used GoToMeeting, we have a short list of other software that can be used for your online meetings and webinars. GoToMeeting has support for both Mac and PC but some of us use Linux also and sometimes our smartphones. Used for conferences, training, live presentations and collaboration, conferencing via the web runs from free to exorbitant.
Meetings are compatible with PC, Mac, Linux, Unix, and Solaris systems. You can also join from your BlackBerry or iPhone. Cost: as low as $59 a month, with a free trial.
Mikogo is a little different. It’s free software that you download; for Windows and Mac. Free for both commercial and private use.
Free web conferencing, online meetings and web collaboration. For Mac, Windows and Linux. Starts at $14.95 a month, try it free.
Relatively new to the web conferencing arena, Livemeetups is also free. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix and is iPhone compatible. No installation needed, no fees.
Free for up to 20 participants and no installation necessary. Linux, Mac and Windows.

Hi Jasmin,
I took a look at TeamViewer..I hadn’t heard of it before. I’m going to try it out as a remote service next time I need one. Two questions: does it work with a Linux platform and does it have webinar capabilities? Thank you!

Hello,
Have you ever heard of TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com)?
TeamViewer is a solution for easy and friendly desktop sharing. You can remote control a partners desktop to give online assistance, or you can show your screen to a customer – all without worrying about firewalls, IP addresses and NAT.
TeamViewer can also be used to control unattended computers and servers. Installation as a system service even allows remote reboot and reconnect.
Are you working in a team with members in many different locations? Would you like to present your desktop or collaborate in a document? In the TeamViewer partner list you see at any time who of your partners is available – it just takes one mouse and you are connected.
It is also a very secure solution. All versions feature completely secure data channels with key exchange and AES (256 Bit) session encoding, the same security standard used by https/SSL.
And all this is free for non- commercial use.
Find out why more than 15 million users trust TeamViewer.
All the best,
Jasmin
