Small Business Blogs in Canada

This week I finally decided to do something about it. ‘It’ being my frustration in finding interesting and informative small business blogs written by Canadians. Most of the blogs that are considered excellent and are read by so many, including myself up until today, are becoming repetitive and boring. So I went on a search of useful blogs catering to the entrepreneur, preferably written without mentioning Twitter in every second paragraph. It wasn’t easy!

After the first hour, I had come up with the BizLaunch Small Biz Blog. BizLaunch, a site we are already familiar with, offers seminars, webinars and a website stocked with information for anyone starting a small business. Read some of the start up stories for inspiration.

By the end of hour #2, I was getting bored. Each blog was a repeat of the others. There wasn’t anything to differentiate between them, just endless talk about social media, Twitter and You Tube, and if I read about branding one more time….

Then I came upon Buzz Canuck

Read it just for the name and also to find out where the idea of branding originated. From there, go on to read the article about brand conformity.

Bizzia

Marketing, how to sell your products and how to interact with your customers. Focuses more on who you are selling to and how you are selling. In addition to social media, there is also a blog post on marketing with paper or electronic newsletters.

Forty blogs later and after a thirty second glance through the posts on each, more of the same. Ahhh…finally. Back to the entrepreneur section of the online website of a magazine I used to read cover to cover. Canadian Business.

Lots to read here, including the weekly guide to building a better business.

Next, Susan Ward at The Money Blogs. Advertising, marketing and how to start a small business. Join the conversation in the forum.

Ebiz blog; lots of Twitter, branding and SEO info that we’ve already read but there is also a mine of other information in the various categories.

Hour #3 and things are starting to look up. There are some great blogs out there! Writers that have something to offer their customers and others who are interested in starting a new business or growing an existing business.

I’d like to read more. More blogs with useful information. I’d rather spend my time wisely. After all, summer is here. The days are long and warm and I’d rather be outdoors.
